We sell washing machines as well as repairing them, which means the advice you get is grounded in seeing which models actually come back with faults. We stock freestanding and fully integrated machines from Bosch, Beko, Hotpoint, Indesit, Samsung, AEG, Zanussi and Hoover, in capacities from compact 6kg through to 12kg family machines, plus slimline 45cm depth models for the tight galley kitchens common in Cambridge terraces and Huntingdon townhouses. Alongside new appliances we sell fully machines, every one stripped, descaled, tested through a full cycle and sold with a 6-month guarantee — typically half the price of new and a genuinely sound option for rentals, second kitchens and utility rooms. Delivery across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire is by our own engineers, not a courier. We connect the machine to your existing supply and waste, check for leaks, remove the transit bolts, level it properly and run a test cycle before we leave, and we will take your old machine away for WEEE recycling at the same time. If your old machine was integrated, we transfer the decor door and reset the hinges as part of the fit.

Before you buy: is repairing cheaper?
The honest test is the 50% rule: if the repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new machine, replacement is usually the better call. Our side of that sum is a £90 call-out, which covers the visit, the diagnosis and the labour, plus the part, quoted for your approval before it goes in. Against a typical mid-range washing machine at £380–£550 new, a pump or an element is an obvious yes, while a full bearing kit on a six-year-old £330 budget machine is an obvious no. Age matters too. Machines are designed around a rated cycle count, and a budget machine at eight years with 2,500 cycles behind it will likely need something else within a year of any major repair. Mid-range machines have a realistic 8–11 year life; Miele and similar can run 15–20. There is a real environmental argument for repair. Manufacturing a washing machine accounts for the large majority of its lifetime carbon footprint, and extending a working machine's life by even two years is far greener than recycling it early. Around 300,000 tonnes of large appliances are scrapped in the UK annually, much of it for faults that come down to a single inexpensive part. We will always tell you when a machine is not worth repairing — and if it isn't, we can supply and fit a new or replacement and take the old one away.

How to choose the right washing machine
Drum capacity in kg
8kg suits a family of three or four and takes a double duvet; 9–10kg suits five or more or anyone washing bulky bedding. Under-buying is worse than over-buying because chronically overloading a drum wears bearings and dampers fast. Remember the kg rating refers to dry cotton weight, not the volume you can physically cram in.
Spin speed — 1400rpm is the sweet spot
Going from 1200 to 1400rpm removes meaningfully more water and cuts tumble dryer time; going from 1400 to 1600 gains very little and adds noise and vibration. If you have a suspended timber floor, 1400 is the sensible ceiling. Higher spin speeds also crease clothes more heavily.
Direct drive versus belt drive
Direct-drive machines have no belt and no carbon brushes, so they lose two common wear items and run quieter. Belt-driven machines are cheaper to buy and much cheaper to repair when the motor side does eventually fail. Both are sound choices — direct drive suits low-noise open-plan kitchens, belt drive suits budget-conscious buyers.
Integrated versus freestanding
Integrated machines hide behind a decor door and need a specific aperture — normally 820–830mm high and 600mm wide — plus correct hinge fixings. They cost roughly £80–£150 more than the equivalent freestanding model and are slightly slower to service. Measure the aperture, not the old machine, before ordering.
Noise rating matters in open-plan kitchens
Look at the spin noise figure in dB, not the wash figure. Anything at or below 72dB on spin is quiet; 76dB and above is noticeable through a wall. If your kitchen opens onto a living space or sits below a bedroom, this is the spec worth paying for.
Energy label and running cost
The 2021 label is strict, so a B-rated machine is genuinely efficient and A-rated is excellent. The difference between C and A over a decade is roughly £150–£250 in electricity for a typical household. Check the label's litres-per-cycle figure too if you are on a water meter, which most new Cambridgeshire builds are.
Check the depth as well as the width
Standard machines are 600mm wide and 550–600mm deep, but many Victorian terrace kitchens only allow a 500mm or 450mm slimline depth once the waste and hoses are behind it. Always add 50mm behind the machine for hoses when measuring. A slimline machine typically drops capacity to 6–7kg.
Programme set — ignore the gimmicks, check the basics
The programmes that matter in practice are a 60°C cottons, a fast 15–30 minute refresh, a good synthetics cycle and an anti-allergy or 90°C option for maintenance washes. Steam and app connectivity are pleasant but rarely change how a machine is used after month two.

What's the difference between your machines and used ones?
Every machine is fully stripped, descaled, has any worn wear items replaced, and is run through a complete test cycle before it is sold. It comes with a 6-month guarantee on parts and labour, exactly like our repairs. That is a very different proposition to a second-hand machine bought privately.
Can you fit an integrated washing machine into my existing kitchen?
Yes. We measure the aperture, transfer or fit the decor door, set the hinges and adjust the anti-tip bracket so the door swings cleanly. If your existing decor door is a different size to the new machine's fixing pattern we will tell you before ordering.
How quickly can you deliver?
Stocked models are usually delivered and installed within two to three working days across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. Special orders depend on manufacturer stock, typically five to ten working days. We give you a timed slot rather than an all-day window.
Do new machines come with a guarantee?
New machines carry the manufacturer's warranty, which is normally one or two years and up to ten on some brands with registration. We handle the registration paperwork with you at handover. Our machines carry our own 6-month parts and labour guarantee.
Can you supply a washing machine for a rental property?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do around Cambridge's rental stock. We can deliver and install directly to a tenanted property with the tenant present, and email the landlord the invoice and installation confirmation. Reconditioned machines are particularly popular for this.
