Indesit is the value badge of the same group that owns Hotpoint, and mechanically the two are close relatives sharing boards, pumps, interlocks and fault codes. Indesit machines are built to a keen price: lighter cabinet steel, plainer controls, a shorter feature list. They are honest at what they cost, and they are extremely easy to work on, which keeps repair bills low.
The faults follow the family pattern — F05 for drainage, F06 for door locks, F08 for heating, plus carbon brushes and modules. What separates Indesit from Hotpoint in practice is the economics rather than the engineering. When a machine cost £270 new, a call-out plus a dear part at year seven is hard to justify and we will say so. Under about five years old, or for any of the cheap common failures, repair is clearly the right call. Parts are plentiful and among the least expensive of any brand in the UK, which is the single best thing about owning one from a repair point of view.

What goes wrong with Indesit appliances
F05 drain fault with water left in the drum
The machine cannot empty or cannot confirm an empty drum, so it stops and keeps the door locked. Blocked pump filters are by far the most common cause — Indesit filters trap coins and hair grips readily — followed by a blocked waste hose or a failed pump.
F06 door interlock failures
The interlock is a known wear item and fails at around the five to seven year mark, leaving the machine refusing to start or refusing to release the door. The part is inexpensive, but the door hook and hinge alignment need checking at the same time or the new interlock wears just as quickly.
F08 heating faults and scaled elements
The element scales badly in hard water, the machine stops heating, and eventually the element fails or leaks to earth and trips the RCD. It is a low-cost, quick repair. Running an occasional hot maintenance wash meaningfully extends element life.
Carbon brush wear causing F02
Brush-motor Indesit machines lose drum rotation as the brushes wear out, usually after five to seven years. Replacing them promptly is cheap; running the machine until it stalls scores the commutator and turns a set of brushes into a whole motor.
Control module and display faults (F09, F12, F18)
Software errors, communication failures between board and display, and internal data errors leave the machine unresponsive or unable to select a programme. A two-minute power-down sometimes resets it, but recurring faults need the module changing.
Light cabinet construction and movement on spin
The thinner cabinet and simpler suspension mean Indesit machines are less tolerant of an uneven floor than heavier brands. Machines that walk across the kitchen usually need levelling and new dampers rather than anything more serious, but sustained movement eventually damages the tub supports.
