Usually yes. Smeg appliances are chosen to suit a specific kitchen and replacing one like for like is expensive, so a functional repair almost always makes financial sense. The exception is a repair that depends on a discontinued colour-matched cosmetic part.

Smeg is bought for how it looks, and there is nothing wrong with that — the retro FAB fridges and the cream range cookers are genuinely distinctive. Behind the styling the picture is mixed. The built-in ovens, hobs and dishwashers are competent Italian appliances, well made and easy enough to service. The laundry is a smaller part of the range and less commonly seen. The FAB fridges use conventional refrigeration in a heavily styled shell.
From a repair point of view the issues are cosmetic parts and price. Functional components are available and sensibly engineered, but door handles, badges, hinges and coloured panels are expensive and sometimes slow to arrive from Italy. Electronics on the ovens can be pricey too. Set against that, Smeg appliances are usually worth keeping: the customer has generally chosen them to fit a particular kitchen look, and a matching replacement costs far more than a repair. Our practical advice is to fix the functional faults promptly and be realistic that anything cosmetic will cost more than you expect.
Parts and availability
Functional parts — elements, thermostats, pumps, fans — are available in the UK at moderate prices with a few days' lead time. Cosmetic and colour-matched parts come from Italy, cost considerably more, and can take one to three weeks.

What goes wrong with Smeg appliances
Oven thermostat drift and uneven cooking
Smeg ovens lose calibration as the thermostat ages or the element weakens, so temperatures run cool and baking becomes unpredictable. It is easily verified with a probe and is normally a straightforward element or thermostat replacement rather than an electronics fault.
Door hinges and door drop on ovens and range cookers
Heavy multi-glazed doors on the range cookers and larger ovens pull the hinges out of true, so the door no longer seals and heat escapes at the top. Symptoms include browning on top of the oven housing and slow preheating. Hinges are replaced in pairs.
Dishwasher drain and sump blockages
The sump and non-return valve trap debris and the machine leaves water in the base or drains slowly. Regular filter cleaning prevents most of it. Where the pump has been running against a blockage for a long time it usually needs replacing as well.
FAB fridge door seal and hinge issues
The heavy styled doors on retro fridges strain the hinges, and once the seal no longer meets the cabinet the unit over-runs and frosts up inside. Gaskets and hinges are available but are among the pricier cosmetic parts in the range.
Expensive and slow cosmetic parts
Handles, badges, coloured panels and control knobs come from Italy, are model and colour specific, and can take one to three weeks. It is worth knowing before you commit to a repair that depends on a cosmetic part being available in the right finish.
