AEG appliance repair

A brand we specialise in

Generally yes. AEG chassis, motors and drums outlast the pumps, valves and sensors that fail, so a £90 call-out plus a pump or a sensor often buys another five years. The one to think hard about is a bearing failure on a sealed-tub model, or a main board on a machine already past twelve years old.

AEG is Electrolux's premium badge and is built on shared Electrolux platforms, mostly in Italy, Poland and Germany. The washing machines are among the better mid-to-upper market machines sold in the UK: ProSense load sensing works well, the drums are properly balanced, and the older ÖKO-Lavamat models in particular were built to last. Dishwashers are quiet and efficient, and the induction hobs and pyrolytic ovens are genuinely good pieces of kit.

The weak points are consistent and well known to any engineer. Drain pumps and pressure systems throw E20 and EF0 codes far more often than the build quality would suggest, usually because the pressure chamber silts up with detergent residue. Door hinges on the washing machines sag with age. On the dishwashers, the i30 leak-detection code is the single most common call-out we take for the brand. Parts availability through Electrolux is decent but slower than BSH — a two to four day lead time is normal for anything beyond the common consumables. AEG is usually worth repairing, because the underlying machine outlives the failed component by years.

Parts and availability

Electrolux supports AEG parts well but distribution is slower than BSH — common pumps, valves and interlocks are next day, while boards, hinges and drum assemblies typically run two to four working days. Costs are moderate: £30–£60 for a pump, £150–£260 for a control board.

How AEG shows faults

E codes on laundry (E10, E20, EF0) and i codes on dishwashers (i10, i20, i30)

What goes wrong with AEG appliances

E20 drain fault on washing machines

The machine halts with water in the drum. Beyond the obvious blocked pump filter, AEG machines are prone to the small pressure chamber and its hose silting up with detergent sludge, which makes the machine misread the water level and abort the drain. Cleaning the chamber is part of a proper repair, not just clearing the filter.

i30 leak detection on dishwashers

Water reaches the base tray and the float switch trips, leaving the machine draining continuously. On AEG the frequent culprits are a blocked or split pressure switch duct, a leaking door seal at the lower corners, or a hairline crack in the sump. It is repairable, but the cause has to be found rather than the tray simply being emptied.

Door hinge sag and seal wear on front loaders

The door drops slightly over the years, so the interlock hook no longer lines up and the machine reports the door open or refuses to lock. It is often misdiagnosed as an interlock failure when the hinge is the real cause. Overloading and hanging washing on an open door accelerate it considerably.

EF0 anti-flood, overflow or excess foam

AEG uses EF0 to flag over-foaming as well as genuine overflow, so it appears when non-biological powder is over-dosed in a soft water area as often as it does for a real fault. Repeated EF0 with correct dosing points at the pressure system or a stuck inlet valve.

Heat pump dryer condenser and sensor fouling

The AbsoluteCare and heat-pump dryers block their evaporator with lint and stop drying properly while still running full-length cycles. The secondary filter behind the kickplate needs cleaning far more often than owners are told, and once the fins are matted the machine needs stripping and flushing.

Pyrolytic oven door lock jamming after self-clean

The motorised door lock can stick closed at the end of a pyrolytic cycle, leaving the oven locked and useless. Usually the lock motor microswitch or the thermal cut-out is at fault. It is a common enough failure that we carry the part for the current oven range.
