Bush is Argos's own-label brand. Nobody manufactures a Bush appliance as such — they are built by a variety of contract manufacturers, mostly in Turkey and China, and badged for Argos. They sit at the very bottom of the market on price, and are extremely common in rented properties and first homes across Cambridge and Huntingdon.
We are honest with owners about these machines. They are built down to a price with thin cabinets, basic suspension and simple electronics, and a working life of five to seven years is a realistic expectation. Repairs are worth doing when the fault is cheap and quick — a blocked pump, a door interlock, an element — because those jobs cost far less than a replacement. Anything involving bearings, a motor or a control board on a machine that cost £200 new almost never adds up. Parts are the other issue: because the machines come from different factories, spares are model-specific and sometimes unobtainable once a line is discontinued, so we check availability before quoting rather than taking a call-out fee on a machine that cannot be finished.

What goes wrong with Bush appliances
Drain pump blockages and water left in the drum
The most common Bush laundry fault by a wide margin. The pump filter clogs or a coin jams the impeller and the machine stops mid-cycle with the door locked. It is a cheap, quick repair and one owners can often prevent by emptying the filter every couple of months.
Door interlock failures
The interlock stops confirming the door is shut, so the machine will not start or will not open at the end of a cycle. The parts are inexpensive when they can be identified, but exact matching against the model number matters because these machines come from several different factories.
Heating element failure in hard water
Elements scale up and fail, so the machine washes cold or trips the household RCD when it tries to heat. It is a low-cost repair but it is worth checking the age of the machine before spending, because scaled elements often come with other tired components.
Excessive movement and noise on spin
Light cabinets and simple suspension mean these machines walk on uneven floors and get progressively noisier as the dampers weaken. Levelling and new dampers help; bearing failure on a sealed tub does not get fixed economically.
Model-specific parts becoming unobtainable
Because Bush is a badge rather than a manufacturer, spares are tied to the individual model and disappear when a line is dropped. This is the most common reason a Bush appliance cannot be repaired, rather than the cost of the job itself.
