Rangemaster has been building range cookers in Leamington Spa since 1830 and is the default choice in a great many Cambridgeshire farmhouse and barn-conversion kitchens. The construction is heavy, conventional and repairable: separate ovens, replaceable elements, accessible wiring and mechanical or simple electronic controls. That is a very good combination for long-term ownership, because almost everything on the cooker can be changed individually rather than as a sealed assembly.
The faults we see are wear rather than design failure. Oven elements and fan motors go, door hinges and seals wear, ignition on the dual-fuel models plays up, and the main oven thermostat drifts. Parts availability is excellent and among the best in the UK — spares for cookers twenty years old are still obtainable. The important caveat is gas: any work on the gas side of a dual-fuel Rangemaster must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and we will only quote electrical and oven work unless a Gas Safe engineer is attending. On the electric side, these cookers are almost always worth repairing.

Rangemaster parts availability is excellent and among the best of any UK brand — elements, thermostats, fans, hinges and seals are stocked for models well over fifteen years old, usually £30–£120 with next-day or two-day delivery.

What goes wrong with Rangemaster appliances
Main and secondary oven element failure
Elements are the most common replacement on any range cooker: the oven stops heating, heats slowly, or only browns on one side. Because Rangemaster ovens are individually wired, replacing an element is a contained job and does not affect the rest of the cooker.
Fan oven motor wear and noise
The fan motor bearings dry out and the oven becomes noisy before eventually stalling, which causes uneven cooking and overheating around the back panel. A change in noise over a few weeks is the usual early warning.
Door hinge wear and heat loss
Heavy doors on the 90cm and 110cm models drop over time and no longer seal, so heat escapes, the fascia gets hot and preheating takes longer. Hinges and door seals are inexpensive and available for most models.
Ignition and gas hob faults on dual-fuel models
Sparking that will not stop, burners that will not light, or flame failure devices that cut the gas are common on older dual-fuel cookers. This is Gas Safe work — it must not be attempted by the owner, and we only carry out gas work with a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Thermostat drift on the main oven
Over the years the thermostat reads progressively low or high, so recipes stop working at their stated temperature. It is easily measured and the thermostat is a standard replaceable part rather than an integrated module.
