What goes wrong with Stoves appliances
Oven element failure
The most frequent Stoves repair: an oven that will not heat, heats slowly or cooks unevenly because the fan or grill element has gone open circuit. Elements are inexpensive, quick to change and specific to the model, so having the rating plate details to hand speeds things up.
Fan motor bearing wear
The fan becomes noisy over several weeks and eventually stalls, at which point the oven overheats locally and cooks badly. Replacing the motor early prevents heat damage to the rear panel and the wiring behind it.
Door hinge and seal wear
Doors drop and the seal stops meeting the frame, so heat escapes around the top of the door and the controls get hot. On the larger range cookers the door weight makes this more common. Hinges are changed in pairs and the seal is usually replaced at the same time.
Ignition and flame failure faults on gas models
Continuous sparking, burners that will not stay lit, or a flame supervision device that shuts off the gas. This is Gas Safe work only and must never be tackled by the owner; we book it with a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Programmer and clock faults preventing the oven working
On models with an electronic timer, a failed or incorrectly set programmer stops the oven heating even though everything else is fine. Sometimes it is a case of taking the clock out of auto mode; where the unit has failed it is a replaceable module.
