Bosch Combination Microwave in Ely: Dead Unit Traced to a Failed Switch

The fault was not inside the microwave itself — it was the switch unit feeding power to the appliance. We traced the supply, confirmed the isolator was faulty, and proved the Bosch was still healthy once it had a proper feed.

We were called to a kitchen in Ely for a Bosch combination microwave/oven that had gone completely dead. Nothing on the display, no response from the controls — the classic “it won’t turn on at all” call. Diagnosis started at the supply. We traced voltage down the cable from the socket side and found there was no power getting through to the microwave. To prove the microwave was still healthy, we fitted a plug to the appliance lead and tested it in another known-good socket. Once it had a proper supply, the Bosch powered up normally. That closed the loop on the diagnosis: the combination microwave itself was fine; the switch feeding it was not.

This visit stopped at identifying the fault. The customer now knows the Bosch is sound and that the failed isolator/switch on the supply side is what needs sorting before the unit will run in the housing again.

A built-in microwave or combi that suddenly goes completely dead is often assumed to be “beyond repair”, but it is worth having the supply and isolator checked first.
